Jamie, I have a recollection of you considering Mepunga Blazer a few years back but baulking at his $1650 stud fee at the time as you thought that was too expensive for any unproven sire.

That being said, what has changed since then to now make Hooked On Scotch a bargain at $2200?

I like Hooked On Scotch as a stud prospect also.

Hi Wade, your memory is sharp!

I saw Mepunga Blazer at Angle Park absolutely smash the clock in a heat of the SA Oaks. Then a week later in the final, he looked a bit shy in the field to me. So at that time, I wasnt convinced that $1600 was a good price. I think Worm Burner was around $1000 at the time and I felt Burner was a better dog than Blazer.
Having said that, he looks like being a great sire and I would use him with the right bitch.

Hooked On Scotch comes into the market as a Sandown track record holder and he enters the market along with Sennachie and Whiskey Riot, who I think are both more than $2200. I think hes the better dog of the 3.
I think this dog has the potential to be a Black Magic Opal type sire and I think his price will skyrocket within a few years, hence why I said $2200 is a bargain.
I recall my old mate Ray Fewings expecting HOS to come in at around $3000.

These are just my thoughts.

It is a big call that Hooked On Scotch will be as good as Black Magic Opal, but yes you're right Hooked on Scotch on the home strait in the Adelaide Cup he run down Sennachie and Whiskey Riot like they were standing still. There's no doubting his ability

But as much as he's started good at stud I agree that Mepunga Blazer isn't worth $1650 let alone $2200. His pups are very noisy and full on unless you go with a very quiet and standoffish broodie. He'll probably produce to Fabregas, bekim bale, my bro fabio types, but I'd warn against going with el grand senor or magic sprite types

Steward's Report

Kennelling closed 7 minutes late due to technical difficulties.

Ellie Wires was slow to begin. Gardener's Boyo, Looks Like Turbo, Angie Ling and Route Sixty Six collided soon after the start checking Angie Ling. Hooked On Scotch and Keefe collided soon after the start checking Keefe. Hooked On Scotch eased on the first turn checking Keefe. Route Sixty Six checked off Looks Like Turbo on the first turn. Angie Ling and Ellie Wires collided on the second turn checking both greyhounds. Gardener's Boyo checked off Two Up Thommo on the third turn. Gardener's Boyo and Hooked On Scotch collided in the home straight.

Hooked On Scotch was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the right hamstrings, right triangle muscle and right shoulder, a 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Trainer, Mr J. Thompson regarding the greyhound's racing manners on the first turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(B)(1), Hooked On Scotch was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge, Hooked On Scotch must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

A sample was taken from Looks Like Turbo, the winner of the event.

i think the dog has achieved a lot on the track from that day

In my 4 decades of being in the industry, my opinion is, HOS had a brain malfunction.....especially when he hasn't done it again.

It's something you don't normally see around the "Catching Pen" area but when it does occur, it's usually associated with dogs having their first start over the 600m / 700m, where they think the race has finished...but there's still a lap to go.

I believe it was as simple as that, he just fcuk3d up... as we all can do from time to time.

No, I don't know the owners, trainer or breeder & have no association with the greyhound.

As I said before on this thread.
You can view the race on YouTube, go to settings and slow the speed down to 0.25%
When you do this, you can clearly see that the dog injured himself through the pen.
Yes he finished strongly. Footballers hurt themselves and continue playing, dogs the same.

I quite rate your opinions highly Jamie as you have put your balls in the basket from day dot.
But im curious as to what causes a dog to keep changing lead leg each stride. No not a usual thing. But can gallop straight as a die 2 days later up any gallop. I can show you examples but before i go there im wondering what injury causes that?
Im not going to reply on here.
Not on a public forum. So you can pm me and ill do the same.
This is no shot at you but to someone that seems to notice smaller details you might be the right person to talk to.

Mix up in storage of a Barcia Bale straw? I hope the vet responsible is paying for the Hooked On Scotch straw and giving you a free implant, a vet messing up your straw is unforgivable
