Hi All
I am trying to give some support to a dog with a sprained toe and need some more info on the bike tyre tube idea. Does anyone know the correct tube size before i go pulling my bike apart (dog is 28-29kg).
I assume i cut it about an inch thick and do i put it around all the toes or am i aiming to strap it just to the toe next to it? I'm assuming it goes around the whole foot?
Does anyone have a picture of this method in practice?. I tried a whole bandage but was very restrictive when walking.
Much appreciated
Brent

Just the toe beside it & cut the elastic end off a condon & double it to suit

Personally Ive found the tyre tube no good , very durable and lasts forever , but for the actual greyhound I havent seen one that doesnt walk off holding its foot up or biting it to get it off !
Strictly only for racing as its that pumped up it forgets about it

For free galloping or pretraining go to coles and Woolies and buy a pack of the yellow rubber washing up gloves $3

Each finger is a diff size so it assists in all sizes of dogs , the thumb being the widest band

Cut the end of the finger off and throw it away so now u have tube fingers left , pick the best size that matches going around 2 toes and cut it 8-10 ml wide which will look a bit wider then the flat rubber bands !

1 inch wide is way to big , it sits above both joints on the flat bridge of their toes looking down on foot , and if you look under the foot it will snuggly fit inbetween the foot pad and the toe pads !

They do stretch way more then the tyre tube so I double em up .

Ill guarantee the dog will run off first go and it wont even know its on ! And Ive never had one re do the toe whilst banded either

Ice and bone radial every second day and after every run with laser if possible

Good luck

Thanks guys
Very detailed Nathan, much appreciated.
The toe i am dealing with is front leg inside toe.
I haven't tried the glove yet but im curious as to how this will work as the inside toe is way shorter than the middle toe. You know what i mean? They dont line up like the middle two do... but i will give it a shot with the rubber gloves.

Yep I understand its small , use the pinky finger on glove to do the inside 2 toes with one band and then use one of the middle or thumb fingers on glove to go over all 4 toes on top of the first small band .

Just dont band 3 toes leaving 1 on its own . This is only for a free gallop or call up as a precautionary, not for finish ons or chasing arms on a race track .

She should be 100 % recovered and given a clean bill of health from a greyhound vet before doing these activities again .

Follow the recovery procedures above and she will be in 6 weeks ! I always go an extra week then diagnosed.

Each to their own , but if keeps happening , she will lose the toe and possibly many lengths .

Hi Nathan
Thanks mate
At the moment she is just bumming around the house. No running yet. I just thought some support might help, went to the vet and he said it wasn't bad enough to bandage but as soon as i let her out to wee that day she did zoomies and hurt it again.
Anyway thanks for all the tips. Bloody clever that glove trick.
And now i have a reason not to wash up the dishes haha
