Delighted to see the new proposal for the seeding of young dogs outlined in this weeks Sporting Press . I have been advocating this for years , all young dogs starting should be classed as middle seeds and then after trials and early races their running style should be observed and they should then be given an appropriate seed . If they show a tendancy to move to the rails, seed inside , I actually prefer the term rails and if they move out to the hare rail, seed wide . The track manager has the responsibility of administering this process ,an omner can ask or suggest a different seeding from that proposed by the manager and in this case the dogs running style should be REVIEWED on video and a decision taken by the manager . We have had a number of dogs injured over the years by dogs who had their seeding changed . There's nothing worse than seeing a dog seeded wide throughout it's career seeded T1 in a race and your dog drawn T2 . This proposal is not perfect but it will help .
