Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Racing
New proposed site for North West harness and greyhound tracks
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our racing industry, which generates more than $185 million in economic activity and supports more than 5,800 jobs.

I am pleased to announce the new preferred location for harness and greyhound tracks on the North West coast.

Opposite the Devonport Airport, the proposed site is on 27ha of private land on Mill Road in Wesley Vale.

The Tasmanian Government will invest $8 million over two years to Tasracing to build the proposed new racetracks.

Importantly, Tasracing plans to use most of the existing design from the previously announced Palmers Road site, which has been accepted by both the harness and greyhound codes.

While there have been some setbacks, the Government has remained committed to this project which will ensure harness and greyhound racing has a long future on the North West.

The Tasmanian Government would like to acknowledge and thank participants on the North West coast for their patience whilst Tasracing identified a new and more suitable site.

Originally it was to be a copy of Taralgon's new track Jack but hopefully they don't as they are aware of issues there.

Yeh have to agree Grafton looking very good so far, wonderful to watch and doesn't appear to have any issues.
