RT's Bo Jangles
(Kiowa Mon Manny-Penrose Karrie by Dodgem By Design).
2017 and 2017 All American team member THE fact that two of Australia's foremost greyhound breeders were among the first to order semen from US racetrack star RT's Bo Jangles, even before it had arrived in this country, augurs well for the success of this dog.
The son of legend US stud dog Kiowa Mon Manny and the royally bred Penrose Karrie, a daughter of speed sire Dodgem By Design, means RT's Bo Jangles brings to Australia racetrack glory, pedigree and the promise of much needed hybrid vigor for in-bred Aussie bloodlines.
Making the All American team twice is a fabulous achievement. His feature race success at Derby Lane was fabulous.
And, he brings to Australia some of the most proven pedigree lines of all.
His damsire Dodgem By Design is a real speed influence in the US and he is the damsire of none other than legend race bitch Fanta Bale (by David Bale).
Bitches by Wheeler stud dogs, especially David Bale, would be the first choice for RT's Bo Jangles. Fanta Bale's mother also carries a cross of the Kinloch Brae damline, so his daughters too will be an ideal mate for Bo Jangles.
Racing out of the famed Cal Holland Kennel at Derby Lane, RT’s Bo Jangles was a two-time All-America first-team member (2017-18). All Americans are the elite eight greyhounds for any one year selected by a panel of experts.
RT's Bo Jangles was so good on the racetrack, he made the team two years in succession. In 2018, the 500m specialist won three stakes including the $50,000 Husker Magic Fall Sprint.
“He was a stand-up dog while we had him here,’’ Derby Lane racing secretary Les Robison said.
RT’s Bo Jangles was the national win leader in the US in 2017.
He raced exclusively at Derby Lane and scored 88 victories from 148 starts for owner Randy Toler.
Holland is high in praise of the dog. "After that first stakes win, we expected him to win almost every race. He’s just that type of a dog, because he always breaks, and he wins.’’
Named after the song, Mr. Bojangles – a popular tune in the 1970s – his first stakes came in the Howl-O-Ween in October, 2017. A month later, RT’s Bo Jangles won the Thanksgiving Stakes one of his 45 victories in 2017.
In 2018 he won the Weaver Memorial Challenge and clocked a career-best 30.04secs in the Husker Magic Fall Sprint heats.
RT's Bo Jangles provides Aussie breeders with plenty of proven options.
His sire Kiowa Mon Manny has been represented with quality gallopers in Australia. His best is Dyna Dean (33 wins, $256,000, G1 Rookie Rebel), Jalapeno (12 wins, $129,000, G3 Qld Cup), Dyna Orenthal (19 wins, $95,000), Innocent Man (40 wins, $67,000), Allen Mack (17 wins, $63,000), Dyna Chill (15 wins, $56,000), Josie Rumble (21 wins, $52,000) etc etc etc.
Kiowa Mon Manny has long been champion sire in the US and has a hugely in-bred pedigree 1x2 to half relations Flying Penske and Flying Moorea.
And, he has worked exceptionally well when linked to bitches from the Wheeler family's dynasty.
Barcia Bale's litter sister Desalle Bale and Dyna Double One's family have both done exceptionally with Kiowa Mon Manny. Thus it would make sense for breeders with bitches by Barcia Bale and his son Dyna Double One to jump at the chance of using RT's Bo Jangles.
Barcia Bale is one stud dog who does absolutely great when linked to bitches with US bloodlines. There are numerous proven examples of Barcia Bale doing well with RT's Bo Jangles' family.
These include Group 1 Peter Mosman runner-up Miley Nismo and her litter sister, Group 1 National Futurity finalist Sorry Scott, who are by Barcia Bale from a daughter of Kiowa Mon Manny and out of a daughter of Gable Dodge ... exactly the pedigree of RT's Bo Jangles.
In the US, Palm Beach Futurity winner EyesAppealing-iu is by Barcia Bale from a daughter of Kiowa Mon Manny and out of a daughter of Gable Dodge ... exactly the pedigree of RT's Bo Jangles.
The Group staying star Reefton Treasure is by Turanza Bale from the Vista Bale damline and this has worked so well with Kiowa Mon Manny. Thus, bitches from the Turanza Bale line (and via his son My Bro Fabio) should also be tested with RT's Bo Jangles.
Breeders should certainly take notice of Penrose Karrie, dam of RT's Bo Jangles. Her pedigree is intense. By Dodgem By Design, she is from Penrose My Emily who is from the Molotov sireline. Penrose Karrie is hugely in-bred to that legend Irish broodbitch Maythorn Pride but also has three crosses of famed broodbitch Miss Hilary through the littermates Lucky Artist and Exception and their half sister Good Point.
Penrose Karrie is bred on the hugely successful Gable Dodge/Fortress cross.
Thus, any bitches with a MALE of Fortress in their pedigree should be a natural for matings with RT's Bo Jangles.
These can be found in Knocka Norris and his sister Elite Oriental.
But, a most significant cross that can be picked up is for breeders with daughters of David Bale, the Wheeler-bred Topgun winner who just happens to have Fortress' son Fortified Speed as his damsire.
When David Bale mated the US-bred bitch Ucme Typhoon, a daughter of Dodgem By Design who also carried Fortress, HB's Commander and Molotov up close in her pedigree, it produced legend Fanta Bale ($1.3 million earner).
AND, Fanta Bale's dam also had that important cross of Kinloch Brae's damline in her make-up.
It thus, should make sense to get as many daughters of David Bale to RT's Bo Jangles as possible in a bid to recreate the pedigree of Fanta Bale.
AND, by consequence, it would also make sense to put daughters of Fernando Bale (also from the Gable Dodge sireline) to RT's Bo Jangles to duplicate the best source of "pace" in the US.
All other stud dogs with Fortress in their pedigree, like Kinloch Brae, Velocette, Slater etc, should also be aimed at linking with RT's Bo Jangles.
Another proven option for him could be bitches with that great Queensland sire Surf Lorian. Semen for Surf Lorian was sent to the US in 2010 and from it came such racetrack stars as Golden Squire who just happened to be out of a bitch with Fortress up close in her pedigree. This is the same cross as found in Surf Lorian's Aussie champ Slater.
Also, the star US stayer Herstal is by Surf Lorian's champion Irish son Definate Opinion from a bitch bred on the Kiowa Mon Manny/Dodgem By Design cross ... again, exactly the cross that produced RT's Bo Jangles.
One of Kiowa Mon Manny's star Aussie performers is the prolific winner Josie Rumble. Her dam Mystic Rumble is a litter sister to Easter Egg winner and leading sire Cosmic Rumble.
Again, it would make sense to utilise daughters of Cosmic Rumble in matings with RT's Bo Jangles to recreate Josie Rumble the winner of 21 races.
Cosmic Rumble's dam Spiritual Rumble is a half sister to champion sire Collision so it would lead on from there that bitches with Collision up close in their pedigree too could suit RT's Bo Jangles.
US superstar Joey Ice is by Kiowa Sweet Trey from a daughter of Kiowa Mon Manny and his direct damline is that of Kinloch Brae.
Kiowa Sweet Trey does spectacularly with Kiowa Mon Manny's sire Flying Penske. Sweet trey can be picked up via Destini Fireball, Glen Gallon, Zambora Brockie, Kiowa Producer and is found in many, many bitches in Australia such is his influence here.
With Flying Penske coming via a SON in RT's Bo Jangles, he can also mate bitches that have Flying Penske through a daughters. These include bitches with Banjo Boy in their pedigree.
And, the US great EA's Itzaboy had some impact in Australia. He brings in a very important cross of the great Right Connection in his damline. Right Connection and his brother He's My Man (found in the damline of Dodgem By Design the damsire of RT's Bo Jangles) have combined in the pedigree of many great US gallopers.
Of course, champion sires like Where's Pedro, Collision and Bombastic Shiraz too have mixed well when mated to bitches with a US connection.
The world of greyhound breeding is becoming smaller and smaller as time goes by. RT's Bo Jangles comes to Australia with many avenues open to him.
